SEA CHANGE YOGA IS SEEKING NEW BOARD MEMBERS!

Note: while we do not currently have any vacant seats on the board, we are always looking to begin relationships with interested and qualified individuals! Please complete an application and we’ll be in touch.

Sea Change Yoga’s mission is to provide trauma-informed yoga to underserved populations. We bring these evidence-based practices to those who have experienced trauma and could benefit from the emotional regulation and increased physical and mental health that trauma-informed yoga and meditation practice provides. Our teachers modify the elements of traditional yoga to facilitate mindfulness, maximize tolerance, build empowerment, and cultivate a more positive relationship to one’s body. Sea Change Yoga offers classes free to students in substance use recovery centers, transitional housing, correctional institutions, schools, and to other vulnerable populations.

Given Sea Change Yoga’s mission and long-range goals, we seek a diverse group of individuals to join our Board of Directors who will bring different perspectives and skills to guide the organization towards achieving its social justice agenda.

If you are motivated, passionate, and have room in your life for service please consider joining our voluntary Board of Directors. Sea Change Yoga expects its Board members to:

  • Fully understand and buy into the organization’s mission, purpose, values, goals, programs, strengths, and needs.

  • Embody and contribute to an inclusive working environment that values varying beliefs, behaviors, and backgrounds.

  • Possess an understanding of the historical context for racial inequity & systemic oppression and its present-day implications.

  • Commit to 5-8 hours of board-related work monthly, including six board meetings and six committee meetings per year and a three-year term.

  • Serve as a working member of at least one committee (Finance, Development, Program, or Governance).

  • Participate in fundraising (e.g., attend events, send annual appeals to your network, recruit sponsors for events, etc.) and make a personal annual contribution that is meaningful to you.

  • Act as a resource and thought partner to the ED.

  • Be an enthusiastic Sea Change Yoga ambassador in the broader community; promote our mission to increase visibility and encourage financial support for the organization.

  • Be willing to make introductions to new networks, corporate sponsors, foundations, and helpful individuals.

  • Assist in selecting new board members who will help the organization achieve its goals.

  • Review revenues and expenses on a quarterly basis to ensure the mission of the organization is being upheld.

  • Participate in strategic planning and the setting of long-term goals.

In addition to these essential requirements, we hope to recruit board members with ANY of the following:

  • Desire to eventually serve in a leadership role on our board.

  • Knowledge of trauma-informed principles, i.e trauma’s effect on the mind and body, and of the power of yoga to address such trauma.

  • Shared lived experience with our student population.

  • Knowledge of and experience with fundraising and cultivating relationships.
