Our Teachers

Liz Kovarsky

Liz Kovarsky (she/her) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, yoga teacher since 2011, artist, dancer, auntie, community-based educator, and the owner of Electric Cottage Collective in Brunswick, Maine. She believes movement can be a practice of liberation, connection, and collective care, and is committed to bringing embodied expression, playfulness, and joy into her classes and beyond.

Liz’s approach to yoga is informed by years of exploring vinyasa and restorative yoga, trauma-informed yoga, yoga for addiction recovery, mindfulness and meditation, Thai Yoga Bodywork, expressive arts, social work, harm reduction, and restorative justice. While completing her Master of Social Work, she also conducted research on the use of trauma-informed yoga in addiction treatment and studied clinical trauma treatment.

For Liz, being trauma-informed is less about following a particular set of techniques and more about staying curious, practicing accountability, and continually learning how to do better. She believes we have to reckon with the ways the wellness industry has been shaped by racial capitalism and work together to create community wellness spaces that are more accessible, equitable, and liberatory.

At the heart of Liz’s teaching is the belief that movement should be more accessible, joyful, and human—not just another thing we have to "be good at". Yoga can be a place to notice, choose, rest, play, connect, and practice having agency in our bodies. She believes caring for ourselves and caring for our communities are deeply connected.

And, importantly, she really likes dogs, hot tubs, and snacks.
