Nuna Gleason

Nuna Gleason is the Founder and Executive Director of Wounded Healers International and Kivulini yoga studio in South Portland, Maine. Nuna is an activist, healer, and teacher of yoga and self-defense who brings people together across their experiences to grow, heal, and celebrate themselves and one another. Nuna's passion is to disrupt systems of oppression and support survivors of sexual violence. She believes every survivor should feel seen, heard, respected, and inspired to become their hero. She also believes everyone has something to offer the world and a role in improving it.

In Kenya, Wounded Healers International runs a crisis line and shelter called the City of Peace for young women impacted by sexual violence while transforming communities through education and leadership for social change.

In Maine, Kivulini Yoga and Dance Studio is a safe space operated by people of color to share the transformative power of yoga and dance. Kivulini runs a bi-weekly support group for new Mainers and works to increase understanding of African immigrant experiences of violence and the role of stigma in the help-seeking process.

Nuna is a SCY Yoga Teacher Training Scholarship Recipient who completed her 200hrs training in 2022. She teaches SCY’s Yoga for New Mainers class and serves as a Board Member.

She also teaches Empowerment Self Defense with Maine-based Prevention. Action. Change., bringing empowerment tools to adults and young people throughout the state.
